This photo is of a memorial in the Hiroshima Peace Park. The Park and the museum in it are reminders of the horrors of war, particularly nuclear war. Hiroshima was the first city in the world to have been attacked with a nuclear weapon, and the Park is a memorial to the 140,000 victims of the bomb.
Through the archway you can see the remains of the building which was closest to the epicentre of the bomb. This was one of the very few remnants of buildings left standing. It was the Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, now called the A-Bomb Dome.
